Time for our annual round up for improvements made to Six Flags America during the off season.
There are a few improvements made to entering the park:
Of special note:
The exterior of the park has been cleaned up, the high grass and ride boards have been removed.
Bag checks are doing before going through security. However, the metal detectors were noticeably set higher as it seemed like everyone needed to wanded as they entered the park.
They also were using bag less entry for the first time in what I believe was a couple of seasons.
The new wireless scanners made getting into the park faster.
Justice League Characters Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern made appearances in the park.
The park is stepping up their culinary options this year. Introducing new stands, remodeling others and introducing new food choices. Among the new stands and food choices is What the Fried? Where they claim to deep fry almost anything. Also new this year is Six Below which will feature Breyers Ice Cream. Ben and Jerry's has left the park. Six Flags America removed the enclosed portion of Bones Chicken and Waffles, opening it up and adding queue rails. This should really help with getting people through the line. The park is also introducing new food items, examples include A Beef Brisket sandwich in the Coyote Creek Restaurant which was pretty good and Premium Salads. Will cover food more in depth in the coming weeks :-)
The old food warehouse is back. Eventually this will be used for the Fright Fest Haunted House.
BIG NEWS OF THE DAY!!!
The No Loose Bag Policy is out! You can now leave your bag in the bins on the ride platforms. They also are using the system where the unload platform ride attendant slides the door back and forth for which train is in the station. Of course, in my opinion, the better option is spend $6 and get a ride locker code that is good all day at any locker in the park. Gives me some piece of mind.
Parts for Bonzai Pipeline have began to arrive.
Every ride in the main park was open except for Renegade Rapids, Shipwreck Falls and Superman:Ride of Steel. Superman was testing with water dummies all day and I'm guessing with temperatures that dipped in to the high 20's the night before it didn't warm up quick enough to run the ride.
Six Flags America has several new shows this year, one is the Pirate Hunters Stunt Show which was doing a really good job of making the crowd chuckle. Another is EFX 2.0 which is "a fun and exciting journey with thousands of bubbles, lasers and more set to music". The entertainment department has already stepped this years show up a notch this year by adding more special effects and moving the center portion of the stage out into the audience. Check out this clip:
Thanks to everyone that attended the Opening Day Invasion of Six Flags America. I hope to see you again next year!
